The majority of couples get legally married back at home, sometimes they have family members who might not be able to travel like their grandparents at the courthouse so they can still be included.

There are many benefits for having a spiritual ceremony down here in Todos Santos for your destination wedding. To be able to have one of your close family members or friends perform the ceremony makes it that more intimate and to be able to write your own vows definitely gets everyone bringing out the tissues.

Here is something your “officiant” can open the ceremony with:

Life should be lived with a spirit of adventure, loads of good conversation and a heart ready to celebrate others. Love your lover. Let your heart feel risk. Keep it wild. Let spontaneity lead, keep things fresh, and say “I love you” a million times a day. Share a meal and some rouge with your tribe. Don’t be tight- fisten with what’s in your hands—be generous! Generous with your words, your creativity, and your love. Live large, and heed to your convictions. Don’t let me sun set upon anger, and be bold even when you feel like retreating to your safe, little cave. Most importantly, have faith and, love God with all your heart, mind, and soul.” Apricot Memoirs by Tessa Guinery

While writing your own vows can seem daunting it is so meaningful and really gets your guests to be in the moment with you. Here are some tips in writing your own vows:

  • The best way to start thinking about vows is scrolling through your phone on all the photos of the adventures you have been on to get where you are today. This will bring so much love and joy to help bring pen to paper in this process. Most importantly don’t overthink and stress, if for some reason this is adding more stress than needed then take a break and go out on a date night.

  • Start by writing your love story and how you got here today, from there you can decide if there is anything you want to include into your vows.

  • Write about the qualities of why you fell in love with your partner, the adventures you have been on and why you are choosing to commit to your partner forever

  • Skipping the traditional vows, for richer or poorer - instead include promises that are personal to you both. You can include serious and sometimes couples like to throw in some funny ones to lighten it up. Maybe you promise something that you love doing together every year and promise to keep with it year after year.

So go grab a glass of wine (or margarita) and start writing your own love story and the journey it took to there!
